THE LANZILO GUIDE

From one device to another.

Move a link, a short note, or a file between the devices in front of you. This guide explains how to find the same sharing space and what to check when a transfer does not appear.

Start with the same connection

Connect both devices to the same home or office internet connection, then open LanZilo in each browser. One device can use Wi-Fi and the other Ethernet if both connections leave through the same router and public IP. You do not need to create an account, install an app, enter a pairing code, or give LanZilo an email address.

Look at the network label near the top of the sharing page. The labels must match on both devices. LanZilo groups requests by the public IP seen by the server. The short label is a reference for that space; it is not a password or a code you can use to join from elsewhere.

Move text and links

Choose Text & links, paste your content into the box, and press Share text. It appears in the shared list on the first device and is picked up by the second device automatically, usually within five seconds. Use Copy to place the same text on the second device's clipboard. A single web link also has an Open link action.

The text limit is 100 KB per item. Text is displayed as plain text, so pasted markup is not executed. For a longer document or a formatted message, save it as a file and use the file tab instead.

Transfer a file

Choose Files and browse for a file, or drop files into the upload area on a desktop browser. Each file can be up to 20 MB. Review your selection and press Share files. Keep the page open until the upload finishes. On the receiving device, use Download beside the file name and check the browser's downloads folder.

Files travel through the hosted service over HTTPS. This is an internet transfer, even when both devices are connected to the same router. Its speed depends on the sender's upload connection, the receiver's download connection, and the size of the file. A space has a 100 MB capacity and a maximum of 100 items. Remove items you no longer need to free up room.

When devices see different spaces

First compare the network labels. If they are different, check that the phone is using Wi-Fi rather than mobile data. A VPN, browser proxy, private relay, or separate guest network can also change the public IP seen by the service. Turn off the extra connection for this transfer if appropriate, reload both pages, and compare the labels again.

On some networks, devices use separate IPv6 addresses or the internet provider changes the outgoing connection between requests. Sharing an exact public IP may not work reliably on those networks. LanZilo does not discover devices directly on your local network. If a label changes unexpectedly, stop the transfer and reconnect on a connection where both devices show the same label.

If an upload or download stops

Confirm the file is not empty and is below the 20 MB limit. Check that both devices still have internet access. If the network space is full, remove an existing item before trying again. After an interrupted batch, files that finished uploading remain available; the unfinished files remain selected so you can retry them.

If an item cannot be downloaded, refresh the list. It may have been removed from another device or the space may have expired. Clipboard access can depend on browser permissions; when copying is unavailable, you can select the displayed text and copy it yourself.

What happens after you finish

The sharing space expires after 30 minutes without access. A visible open sharing page checks for updates and counts as activity. Close the sharing pages when you are finished. A background tab stops regular polling, and the next visit after expiry starts an empty space. You can remove individual items immediately with the delete action.

Expiry makes old items unavailable. Stored file bytes and metadata are removed by cleanup on later service requests, so physical removal may happen after the expiry time. LanZilo is temporary transfer storage, not a backup. Keep an original copy of any file you need.

Understand who can access a space

Anyone whose requests use the same public IP can view, download, or delete the items in that space. This can include other people on an office connection, public Wi-Fi, or an internet provider's shared outgoing IP. There is no account-based identity check and there is no end-to-end encryption. HTTPS protects the connection to the service.

Use LanZilo for items you are comfortable making available to that network. For content that needs a named recipient, private access control, or long-term storage, choose a service designed for those requirements.
